I. Project Background
As a leading digital infrastructure and communication tower service provider in Asia, the EDOTCO Group manages and operates a vast network of communication tower assets in Malaysia and several other Asian countries. With the accelerated deployment of 5G networks and the continuous expansion of communication tower coverage into remote areas, the energy consumption and maintenance pressure on base stations are increasing dramatically. Many base stations are located in complex or remote environments, placing stringent demands on the continuity, stability, and security of power supply.
To improve network reliability and implement a long-term strategy of sustainable development and energy conservation and emission reduction, EDOTCO Malaysia launched a smart power distribution panel and remote monitoring project for passive infrastructure of communication towers.
II. Core Solution
This project revolves around a customized “Smart Power Distribution Panel” and its accompanying “Remote Monitoring System.” The power distribution panel not only possesses traditional power distribution and overload protection functions but also integrates IoT communication modules and high-precision sensors, enabling real-time collection of key passive parameters such as current, voltage, power factor, power consumption, and internal equipment temperature.
By deploying integrated smart hardware, base station energy and environmental data can be continuously uploaded to the central control terminal. Combined with EDOTCO’s intelligent operation and maintenance platform, this completely replaces the traditional passive maintenance model relying on regular manual inspections, establishing a “millisecond-level” early warning and response mechanism for potential hazards such as base station power outages, overloads, and abnormal temperatures.

This proactive defense system can eliminate the risk of electrical fires and network outages before the fault worsens, significantly improving the safety and operational reliability of communication base stations.

Thanks to the remote online monitoring function, operation and maintenance personnel do not need to frequently visit the site for daily inspections, effectively overcoming the challenges of base station maintenance in remote or terrain-challenged areas. In the event of a fault, the system can achieve precise location and intelligent diagnosis, reducing troubleshooting time and significantly decreasing labor costs and travel expenses, achieving a leap from “reactive repair” to “proactive prevention” in digital operation and maintenance.
3. Energy Saving and Cost Reduction
The system provides operation and maintenance management with fully visualized energy consumption data. Through in-depth analysis of historical power consumption data from base stations, the management team can accurately identify ineffective energy consumption or abnormal power consumption of equipment, thereby continuously optimizing power consumption plans and resource allocation, achieving refined power management of each node in the communication network, and contributing to a dual reduction in overall network operating costs (OPEX) and carbon footprint.
